Tikus adalah salah satu jenis hewan yang sering terlihat di sekitar lingkungan manusia, tikus merupakan hewan pengerat yang kehadirannya cukup mengganggu dan ada beberapa jenis tikus. Selain merusak, kehadiran tikus juga bisa menjadi pembawa penyakit.
Tikus dapat menghantarkan berbagai macam jenis penyakit bagi manusia seperti leptospirosis, demam, diare, pes, dan keracunan pada makanan.
Setidaknya ada 4 jenis tikus yang biasa hidup di sekitar kita dengan ciri yang berbeda-beda, sehingga penanganannya pun akan berbeda.
1. Jenis Tikus got (Rattus norvegicus)
Tikus got disebut juga dengan nama tikus norway, Jenis tikus ini biasanya akan bersarang di bawah tanah, saluran air, atau ruang bawah tanah.
Ciri dari tikus ini adalah:
- Memiliki panjang keseluruhan mencapai 40,5 cm.
- Telinga kecil dan berbulu
- Tubuh gempal
- Ekor lebih pendek dari panjang kepala sampai tubuh
- Hidung tumpul/pendek
2. Jenis Tikus atap (Rattus rattus)
Hewan pengerat yang mudah terlihat di rumah-rumah. Hewan ini termasuk dalam subsuku Murinae dan berasal dari Asia. Di sebut tikus atap, karena habitat hewan pengerat ini adalah di atap.
Ciri dari tikus ini adalah:
- Hidung mancung
- Pandai memanjat dan melompat
- Telinga tipis dan lebar
- Tubuh langsing
- Ekor lebih panjang dari pada kepala sampai tubuh
3. Tikus rumah (Mus domesticus)
Tikus ini miliki ukuran tubuh lebih kecil berbeda dengan tikus atap. Jenis tikus ini bisa kita ketahui dengan suara cicitannya dan kebiasaannya yang suka menggerogoti sesuatu. Tikus ini lebih sering bersembunyi di lubang-lubang dinding atau perabot rumah.
Ciri dari tikus ini adalah:
- Panjang tubuhnya sekitar 3-10 cm.
- Ukuran ekornya lebih panjang dari tikus atap
- Ukuran telinganya lebih besar dari tikus atap.
- Ukuran kaki dan kepala yang sudah dewasa lebih kecil dari pada tikus atap.
- Gesit dan pandai memanjat.
- Jejak kakinya berukuran lebih kecil dari tikus atap
4. Mencit (Mus musculus)
Mencit mudah dijumpai di rumah-rumah dan memiliki ukuran dan kebiasaan tidak jauh berbeda seperti tikus rumah yaitu menggerogoti sesuatu dan bersembunyi di balik perabot rumah.
Hewan ini diduga sebagai mamalia terbanyak kedua di dunia, setelah manusia. Dan banyak dijadikan hewan percobaan di laboratorium.
